Best UT Clans 99'-2003

I’m not sure if this is the right place to ask this question, but I was thinking the other day (after taking us off the 2003 ladders) what the best clans in UT and UT2K3 were. I’m talking about long terms clans that held top spots for quite a time and were strong in the community. Any thoughts on this..?

Like for UT I was thinking of:

TAL
SAKA
VOW
LEATHAL
TG
POD

For UT2K3 I’m really not sure, things kind of fell apart when it came out and lots of folks stayed with UT not to mention the added MOD’s.

Would love to hear everyone’s thoughts on this.

i would like to add MACK, TBA, FAT and bAd to that list of UT99 clans as well.

For UT, a clan that gets overlooked a lot because it was never #1 is [LM]. Of course I am a bit biased, but even before I was a member of [LM] they were always a top clan and were always up in the ranks as long as they were on the ladder until the tail end of UT when peeps didn't care as much.

I think when asking this question you need to define what makes a team "Best". Is it only their rank and skills, or can you also put sociability, likeability and fun factor into it? Unfortunately a lot, not all, but a good number of the clans who are always called "the best" hardly fit into the latter categories. Which stinks imo, cuz I think that's the most important part, not how long a team holds onto being #1 on a game ladder...

You are so right on with those additions Mr. Rat. I remember many fun times with PimpSplap from TBA. Yes Vlad, That is what I'm talking about all, of the above... and indeed LM was one of the top groups as well regarding those things.

I honestly Remember many nights playing with peeps from TAWC, SAKA, LM, TBA, TAL, and MACK on different IG servers and never once did you hear half of the BS that is spewed in the servers as of late. That was way before Pugs and people were always scrimming each other and the Public servers were always full with very talented players with good attitudes.

But you were TAWC in the new days, you gotta go back for old school TAWC, back when it was The Anti-Whiner Clan Ratty remembers, he was an honorary member. I was part of TAWC when it held that name as well, damn that was a long time ago, right after UT came out. Back with Spilth, Cyber, Kenny (aka forgot his nick help me out here...), DragonFire, JackTheRipper, Cocaine, Jyrann, Necro, etc...

Clan GAY was started shortly after the full game came out, and after MACK left the OGL CTF IG ladder they were #1 for a long time, until they left the ladders for us young bucks to fight over (bAd, KYRO, S&D). They then made a comeback and held #1 on OGL CTF IG for about 6 months before being knocked off (I was there for this one ), and eventually SGL taking over.

We (GAY) were also #1 on OGL ZP IG CTF for a long long time and were #1 with a 22-1 record on OGL IG TDM. We left the TDM ladder because nobody would challenge us anymore. Zone would have, but after we beat them they quit the ladder.

We also won the Ilan IG Tournament, beating out all other clans.

But through all of that, clan GAY was a class act (except for a couple of loudmouths ). We tried to be fair and cool with all teams and people, and seemed to be well liked by most (except maybe Haz and Lethal ).

You guys might not remember names like Crazy, Chicken, Ahithophel, Gohan, Allah, Hindu, and Riff; but these guys were legends in their own time, and deserve to be remembered today.

I would have included Lax, Sith, and Anterol in that little diatribe but they are still playing.

And then there's Custom, Jatwell, Stang, and Eagle. Haven't seen those dudes in a long time either.
