question about photoshop

Can anyone tell me why,when I open a picture with pshop it is extremely dark ?

How do I adjust this so that it appears the same as my desktop or other graphics programs ?

oh also was going to ask if there was a way to make sure what you view..colors ...gamma and such is set properly to some sort of standard ?

I've played around with all the settings so much that I have no idea how they look to other people.

I think if you hold down "control, alt, and shift" when the program is booting up, it will reset all your preferences and such back to the defaults.

Not sure on that Crazie, Never had that problem.
