Subject: Demo should be ready this week

Hi Folks,

The demo is nearly ready to go. It should be out sometime within the next few days. Keep watching this space (the stickies) for an announcement. When it's ready we'll just be releasing it randomly to a few major sites so that hopefully it will spread like wildfire and everyone will be able to get it from their favorite games site. There won't be any special exclusives or anything like that. We want everyone to be enjoying it the minute it goes live.

If you look back through dialogues from IRC sessions you will find that Epic never once committed to a release date on the demo or the game. The comments were always that the demo was at least 2 weeks away. But never stated that there would in fact be a release. Epic stated that they would give 3-5 days notice before release and not to make any speculations beyond that. They have now committed and Mark Rein stated that there will be a release no later than Friday. The demo has been packaged, approx. 100MB. There is apparently one thing that they are looking at and it will be ready.

Caught this over at the ROA forums, kind of funny when you think about it....


So we're all Cliff-watching this afternoon, hanging on to every stop-motion movement from his office.

First, they had a cam focussed on the handwritten note saying "5 + hours", then the cryptic "RAND ( )" note (which some took to mean less than an hour), then the note was yanked down (and I mean yanked - there's still a fragment of it left).

We saw Cliff come in and sit down and the cam was on him for 30 - 45 mins, then he left again.

Then this post showed up in the Infogrames forums:

Hehe, yeah read that earlier, pretty funny....anyway it's fixed and they are compiling it now (actually since about 6:30 est) and looks like things will be go for realease this evening.....

It's more like Quake with UT weapons. Instagib rifle is pathetic. I can't tell if I hit the person a half the time because it shoots straight through - no immediate gib. The laser is purple...err or red? it is transucent. Quite hard to see the shots.

Good luck pinging under 200 to servers.:(

This game rocks!!!!! Not sure what Herren is talking about with the pings being around 200. I'm seeing that the pings are about the same as normal UT. I'm going to have to tweak the interface, way too much crap happening. We need more maps!!!!

It's the first option Bernie but you may have to wait about 30 seconds, they're having problems with the master server.

I spent most of last night trying to get some valid links posted for y'all. By the time I was done, didn't have the time to play, due to having to work today. From what I'm hearing it sounds good though, and I'll get to play a little bit tonite.

Berine, if you can't get anything to work try gamespy. They are setup for the demo as well, keep in mind it will probably bump you pings up a little though.

They are having problems with the master server, so until they fix that your server listings will show nothing. Last word was they are reloading it at this moment. If you have a gamespy ID though(which is free) you can go onto gamespy and hop on an online server from there, until they repair the master server.

If you know the IP address for a server I think you should be able to do an "open location" as well from within the game.
