Time for an upgrade. I'm thinking of doing a motherboard upgrade to my pc in the very near future.

Well Bernie, you are probably fortunate to even run it being as your CPU doesn't meet minimum requirements. Epic was saying 600Mhz in the beginning but somewhere in the process it changed to 733Mhz. UT2K3 is much more CPU intensive than the previous version. When I upgraded from the GF3Ti500 to the Radeon 9700 pro on my XP2000 machine it increased my frame rates approx 2-3 fps. Disappointing considering the cost of the Radeon. My neighbors 1.4 T-Bird and GF3 have to set to medium detail to get acceptable framerates.

It's an annual thing now for me to upgrade. This years rig is the Radeon 9700 Pro, Via P4PB m/b with a P4-2.53. Decided to put an Audigy card in even know what I have heard lately about them. Monday the 1 GB of PC3200/DDR400 arrives to finish things up. I've got about $1K invested. But the need to upgrade next year really doesn't exist. Although, I'm curious to see what the GF5 line will bring next spring.

You could probably upgrade your board, CPU and mem and get satisfactory performance. The GF3 is still a pretty potent card. It just needs something heavy doing the thinking for it.

the latest detonator drivers have built-in support for overclocking the gpu on the gf3ti500 cards (dont have anything else, it may be there as well but i can only speak for my card). I'm going to be doing some oc-ing to my card tomorrow and see if i can squeak out a little more performance in ut :)
